DECEMBER 1, 2016
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we begin our Advent Sermon Series “He Is”:
This week we are looking at Genesis 1:1-2 and we’ll see how God created the heavens and the earth and in Christ, he can make us new as well.
Our Call to Worship will include lighting the “Hope” Advent candle. Here is the scripture we’ll be reading as our call to worship.
1 Peter 1:3-4
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.
God calls us to worship him by drawing our attention to the great hope God has given us through the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. No matter the situation we find ourselves in, we can hope in Christ because he is our great inheritance.
Read 1 Peter 1:3-4 and pray that God would:
Fill our hearts with the hope of Christ.
Give saving hope to our friends, families, and neighbors who need Christ.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they rejoice in the truth that God has come near to dwell with us and they look forward in hope to the joyful return of Christ.
Here is last week's sermon in case you missed it:
