DECEMBER 22, 2016
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we are concluding our Advent Sermon Series, “He Is,” as we celebrate Christmas!
This week we are looking at Philippians 2:3-11 and seeing how the sacrificial life and love of Christ sets us free to sacrificially love others.
Our Call to Worship will include lighting the “Joy” Advent candle. Here is the scripture we’ll be reading as our call to worship:
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
In this passage, God calls us to worship him by showing us the great hope we have in Christ. We can have great joy because we know that we serve a compassionate God who has put an end to death through his own death and resurrection. We worship a loving God who has reconciled us to himself so that we can dwell with him in continual joy!
Read Revelation 21:3-4 and pray that God would:
Give us great joy over His love and salvation for us.
Give saving hope to our friends, families, and neighbors who need Christ.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they express the joy and hope we have in the gift of Christ’s birth.
Here is last week's sermon in case you missed it.
