JANUARY 5, 2017
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we are looking at Ephesians 2 and seeing how Christ is the cornerstone of Christian community.
Our Call to Worship is Psalm 29:1-4
Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders,
the Lord, over many waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
God calls us to worship him by reminding us that there is not a single creature or square inch of creation that he does not control and guide with his powerful voice. God speaks and creation obeys. God speaks and our hearts are revived and changed. We can so often ascribe greatness to the wrongs things in our lives like our bosses, friends, spouses, politicians, and finances but this psalm shows us there is none who is powerful like our God who rules through the power of his word. This psalm calls us to respond with wonder and awe to the God of the universe who rules in holy justice and love.
Read Psalm 29:1-4 and pray that God would:
Stir our hearts to see and cherish the greatness of God above all else.
Give us great joy and renewal as we gather around his word.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they help us see how God’s great power and sovereignty is our only source of comfort and freedom. They help us see and praise Christ for the truth that he is our steadfast foundation.
Here is last week's sermon in case you missed it.
