DECEMBER 28, 2017

Church family,

"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.

As we look to begin a new year we’ll be looking at Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 and seeing what God’s word says about planning and preparation.

Our Call to Worship is Psalm 148:11-13:

11 Kings of the earth and all peoples,
princes and all rulers of the earth!
12 Young men and maidens together,
old men and children!
13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his majesty is above earth and heaven.

As the year ends and a new one begins, it is easy to exalt past experiences (good or hard) and future hopes. We can look to possibilities and people as in control of our happiness and security. But God calls us to worship him by remembering that he is exalted above all people, from kings to children. Only he deserves our hope and fear because only he is powerful and perfect.

Read Psalm 148:11-13 and:

  1. Pray that we would be in awe of God’s majesty.

  2. Pray that we would trust God above all.

Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose them because they speak deeply and beautifully about God’s sovereign guidance over our lives.
