"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we are continuing our sermon series 1st and 2nd Samuel: A Man After God’s Heart. Check out the sermon series bumper here:
This week we are looking at 2 Samuel 2-6 and seeing how our worship makes it clear what we value the most.
Our Call to worship is Psalm 62:5-8
For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
On God rests my salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us.
We are constantly bombarded with opportunities to place our trust and love in things other than Christ. In a constant and glamorous appeal, money, power, stability, and influence tempt us to place our hope in them. But God calls us back to sanity by telling us to wait, in silence, on him and his action. We know we can trust and love God because, unlike our idols, he is unchangingly powerful and good. God calls us to respond to him with the worship of our trust and love.
Read Psalm 62:5-8 and pray that God would:
Quiet our hearts before him.
Grow our awe, trust, and love in Christ.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. The elementary kids are helping lead in worship this week! We chose these songs because they teach us about the glory and majesty of God while giving us space to respond with awe, trust, and love.
