JUNE 1, 2017
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we are continuing our series through the Psalms “Ascribe.”
This week we are looking at Psalm 24 to see how Christ has given us his perfect purity and integrity and how he has credited our account of shame and disgrace with honor and mercy.
Our Call to Worship is Psalm 24:1-2.
The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof,
the world and those who dwell therein,
for he has founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers.
Psalm 24 calls us to worship God by reminding us that we, like all of creation, belong to him. We are tempted to forget that we belong to God’s kingdom and we can look for our sense of belonging in many other things. Safety, security, recreation, and work all call us to belong to them, but this psalm reminds us that only God can truly offer any of those things. The psalm tells us to remember who we are, God’s people, and to worship the Lord as our only source of hope, peace, and joy.
Read Psalm 24:1-2 and pray that God would:
Show us where we have found our identity or belonging in places besides him.
Lift our heads to follow and rejoice in him.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they call us to remember our identity in Christ, and rejoice in the great salvation he has given us. We are singing a new song “Behold (Psalm 24)” that we’ve written and recorded for our Psalm series. Listen to it below to prepare for Sunday!
Here is last week's sermon in case you missed it.
