JULY 27, 2017
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
We are continuing our series through the Psalms “Ascribe.”
This week we are looking at Psalm 135 and seeing how God works powerfully for his glory and our good.
Our Call to Worship is Psalm 135:1-4.
Praise the Lord!
Praise the name of the Lord,
give praise, O servants of the Lord,
who stand in the house of the Lord,
in the courts of the house of our God!
Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;
sing to his name, for it is pleasant!
For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself,
Israel as his own possession.
Psalm 135 tells us that God has chosen his people and made them his family. He has shown us his goodness by redeeming and making us “his own”. In Psalm 135, we’re called to worship God because we belong to him, and because it is a very good thing to belong to God! He is a gracious and good father who has saved us from sin and directs our lives for his glory and for our good. Psalm 135 tells us that it is “pleasant” to sing praises to God, and praising God is the most deeply satisfying thing we can do because it is what we are made for. As we worship together this Sunday let’s pursue and rejoice in the truth that God is our greatest good!
Read Psalm 135 and pray that God would:
1. Increase our desire for God alone.
2. Give us a deep awareness and appreciation of his holiness and mercy.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they rejoice in the saving work of Jesus.
Here is last week's sermon in case you missed it.
