SEPTEMBER 14, 2017

Church family,

"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.

This week we are continuing our sermon series “Multiply: a Journey Through the Book of Acts.”

This week we are looking at Acts 4:1-22 and seeing the power of proclaiming the name of Jesus.

Our Call to Worship is Psalm 103:1-5.

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Psalm 103 describes the boundless size of God’s grace given by Jesus Christ. The writer of the psalm begins by commanding his “soul, and all that is within me” to praise God. He knows that his right response of worship involves every ounce of his being, mind, heart, and body. He continues by reminding himself of all the good God has done, all the glory of God that he has experienced in salvation and provision. He knows God deserves all of his being offered in worship because God has saved him from all of his iniquity, has healed him of all his diseases, has saved his whole life from the pit, and has given him his all-satisfying good. Why do we worship God with every ounce of our being? Because all of it belongs to God, all of it has been saved by God, and all of it is sustained by his goodness.

Read Psalm 103:1-5 and pray that God would:

  1. Help us remember all of his goodness in every area of our lives: family, work, health, etc.

  2. Help us worship him as we gather, and as we are sent out into the world with our whole selves.

Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they proclaim the power of Christ’s name.
