APRIL 12, 2017
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we continue our sermon series “Multiply: a Journey Through the Book of Acts.” We’ll be looking at Acts 17:1-9 and seeing how the gospel gives us our life purpose.
Our Call to Worship is Psalm 1:1-3.
Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
This scripture calls us to worship by learning from him and growing in obedience to his will. It reminds us that there is blessing and delight for those who follow God. Sin lies and promises security and pleasure, but God keeps his promise that we will flourish if we follow his word. This is what it means for Jesus to be better than sin. Jesus actually delivers what he promises. His way does actually lead to joy and peace in our lives. That’s why we gather together, to grow in the way of Jesus. Let's gather eager and ready to grow in the way of Jesus.
Pray that we would delight in the way of Jesus, truly seeing his will as better than sin.
Pray that we would have grace-filled hearts that desire to see others flourish in the way of Jesus.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We are singing these songs because they remind us that our whole lives belong to God and we can trust his power to faithfully lead our lives.
