MAY 31, 2017
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we are looking at Colossians 3:12-17 and seeing how God uses music to grow us to be more like Christ.
Our Call to Worship is 2 Corinthians 4:5-6.
For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians says our darkness has been replaced and obliterated by the light of Christ. The Lord has shone his light on us, replacing an identity made up of our own strength, and given us a new name through his work and his calling. He calls us in his love, his sovereignty, and his grace to replace our self-evaluated worth with His true identity. There is freedom in this for us. There is freedom from being the perfect parent, friend, Instagram account, and plain, old regular Joe. Breathe deep. The Lord has brought you out of darkness to richly dwell in the wide space He has for you.
Pray that God shines his light into the darkness of our hearts and renews and refreshes us this Sunday.
Pray that we would grow in the freedom of Christ.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We are singing these songs because they rehearse the gospel story and remind us of the power of Christ in our lives.
