Getting Ready for Sunday, August 5

AUGUST 2, 2017

Church family,

"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.

This week we are looking at Acts 23:12–24:27  and seeing how the story demonstrates the sovereignty of God and the character of a faithful Christian witness.

Our Call to Worship is Ephesians 4:22-24:

22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

God calls us together in worship so that we can remember who we are in Christ and be renewed by that truth. As we hear the truth of the gospel, it holds up a mirror to the sinful and destructive patterns  of the old self and shows us how Jesus is so much better than the ways of the old self. Let's gather this Sunday ready to submit to the work of the Holy Spirit as we put on the new, Christ-like self.

Read and:

  1. Pray that God would grow us in righteousness and holiness.

  2. Pray that we would believe deeply the truth of who God says we are in Christ.

Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they celebrate the great hope we have because Jesus is Immanuel, God with us.
