SEPTEMBER 6, 2017
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we are looking at Judges 2:6-3:11 and seeing how personal and corporate experiences of God produce unwavering commitment to him, while causing us to minimize ourselves and give him glory.
Our Call to Worship is Psalm 115:1.
Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory,
for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!
Gathering together on Sunday gives us the opportunity to lay down whatever preoccupies our minds. These might be things like preferences or pains, victories or goals, or even just our vision of ourselves. God gathers us together to get our eyes off ourselves and our situation and to get our eyes upon him. When we see the glory and power of God it reframes what we think of ourselves, our situations, and others. It shows us that there is a bigger story that we live in; there is a bigger cause to live for than just our own comfort and survival. Let’s gather together this Sunday, ready to have God refocus our hearts on his glory and have his glory overwhelm our hearts and minds!
Read Psalm 115:1 and:
Thank God for his steadfast love and faithfulness.
Pray that we would give glory to God as a church as we gather this Sunday.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they draw us to awe and wonder at the glory of God and call us to follow him in trust.
Here is last week's sermon in case you missed it.
