"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we are continuing our Advent Sermon Series “He Is”:
This week we are looking at Isaiah 7:14 and seeing how the gospel is an invitation to fully trust God in incredibly difficult circumstances.
Our Call to Worship will include lighting the “Peace” Advent candle. Here is the scripture we’ll be reading as our Call to Worship.
Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry aloud or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break,
and a faintly burning wick he will not quench;
he will faithfully bring forth justice.
In this passage, God calls us to worship him by showing us that Jesus is a better savior than we could have ever imagined on our own. He is not cruel or cavalier. Instead, he is kind and thorough in how he brings forth his justice. This passage shows us that our Messiah is kind and merciful in his justice, and that we can trust in his goodness.
Read Isaiah 42:1-3 and pray that God would:
Help us have a true and trust-inspiring view of who God is.
Give saving hope to our friends, families, and neighbors who need Christ.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they call us to place our hope in Christ’s past work, presence among the church, and future return to make all things new.
