Getting Ready for Sunday, July 31

JULY 28, 2016

Church family,

"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcomingSunday to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.

This Sunday we’ll be continuing our sermon series in John by looking at John 21:1-14. We will see that when God saves us, He begins a movement towards something new rather than lingering in something old.

Our call to worship is Psalm 107:1-9:
"Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! 2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. 6 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 7 He led them by a straight way till they reached a city to dwell in. 8 Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! 9 For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things."

Read this passage before gathering with the church this Sunday and ask God to:

  1. Remind us of specific instances of His faithfulness to us.
  2. Lead us to worship Him because He fills our hungry souls with good things. (Ps. 107:9)

Here are the songs we’ll be singing this Sunday. We picked these songs because they remind us of God’s good and great character. They also provide opportunity for us to repent of sin, to remind ourselves of the forgiveness of Christ, and to sing about the new life Christ has called us to. Listen to these songs beforehand to prepare to worship with the church. The elementary kids will also be helping lead us in worship this Sunday!
