Getting Ready for Sunday, September 25

SEPTEMBER 22, 2016

Church family,

"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing. We’ve also begin including care group discussion questions at the bottom of the email, to help your care group discuss God’s word together.

This Sunday we are continuing our new fall sermon series “To the One Who Conquers”. Check out our series preview video here:

This week we are looking at Revelation 3:7-13 and seeing how being rooted firmly in our identity in Christ is the only way to withstand opposition, rejection, and persecution.

Our Call To Worship is Psalm 113:

"Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord! Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore! From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised! The Lord is high above all nations and his glory above the heavens! Who is like the Lord our God, who is seated on high, who looks far down on the heavens and the earth He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people. He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the Lord!"

This Psalm calls us to worship God because of His gracious character toward us. The Psalm describes God as one who “raises the poor from the dust”, “lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes” and calls us to be in awe and wonder of who He is and what He has done for us. This awe and wonder leads us to hope in God throughout all of life.

Read it before Sunday and ask God to:

  1. Comfort and provide those who are suffering and are in need.
  2. Pray that we would be in awe of our great God as we worship together.

Here are the songs we are singing this Sunday. We are singing them because they remind us to find our identity in what Christ has done for us. As we find our identity in Christ we rejoice in Christ and follow Him in obedience!
