MARCH 2, 2017
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we are continuing our sermon series 1st and 2nd Samuel: A Man After God’s Heart. Check out the sermon series bumper here:
This week we are looking at 2 Samuel 11 and seeing that Christ’s sacrifice is the only thing that sets us free from sin and empowers us to obey him.
Our Call to worship is Psalm 99:1-5:
The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble!
He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!
The Lord is great in Zion;
he is exalted over all the peoples.
Let them praise your great and awesome name!
Holy is he!
The King in his might loves justice.
You have established equity;
you have executed justice
and righteousness in Jacob.
Exalt the Lord our God;
worship at his footstool! Holy is he!
The Psalms teach us what God loves, desires, and does. God uses them to shape our lives to look like Christ. This psalm calls us to worship God by loving what he loves and desiring what he desires for his world. In this psalm we see that God desires that all the earth would worship him. We are reminded that God loves justice and fair treatment. We see he is powerful and exalted above all other things. God loves his glory, loves justice, and is great and awesome in power. This picture of God should stir our hearts to exalt him for who he is and follow him in his love of justice, equity, and righteousness.
Read Psalm 99:1-5 and pray that God would:
Help us value and exalt him before all other things.
Grow our desire and love of justice and righteousness.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they exalt God for who he is and remind us that freedom from sin and temptation comes through the work of Christ alone.
