MARCH 9, 2017
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we are continuing our sermon series 1st and 2nd Samuel: A Man After God’s Heart. Check out the sermon series bumper here:
This week we are looking at 2 Samuel 12 and seeing that the cross is God's promise to us that there is no sin so heinous, no heart so wicked, that He cannot cleanse it. The resurrection is God's promise that there is no situation so dead that He cannot renew and restore it.
Our Call to Worship is Psalm 51:10-13:
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners will return to you.
As God gathers his church together under his word, he’s gathering us to create and renew clean hearts through Christ. He gathers us to develop a hunger for his presence and Spirit. He gathers us to restore and uphold us in His will. He is working to shape us so that as we experience his grace and transforming power we respond by sharing the same grace and redemption with the world. Psalm 51 shows us what God is doing to us when he calls us together to worship him through listening to his word, submitting in prayer, and responding in praise. Psalm 51 shows us God’s desire for his church.
Read Psalm 51:10-13 and pray that God would:
Create in us clean hearts hungry for his presence and will.
Give us opportunity to share with others his great work of redemption.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they call us to desire God’s change in our hearts and help us respond to his great power and mercy in praise.
Here is last week's sermon in case you missed it.
