Getting Ready for Sunday, May 28

MAY 25, 2017

Church family,

"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.

This week we are continuing our series through the Psalms “Ascribe.”

This week we are looking at Psalm 19 and seeing how God calls us to follow him through his word and work in creation.

Our Call to Worship is Psalm 19:7-9:

7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
making wise the simple;
8 the precepts of the Lord are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
enlightening the eyes;
9 the fear of the Lord is clean,
enduring forever;
the rules of the Lord are true,
and righteous altogether.

Psalm 19 describes what happens to us when we submit to God’s word. Weary souls are revived, our hearts are filled with joy, we gain wisdom, and we learn the freedom that comes from fearing only God. Psalm 19 calls us to worship God by bringing our stress, weariness, joys, and desires to the light of His word, in order that they can be renewed and transformed. God’s word speaks powerfully to every situation of our hearts and God alone can change us!

Read Psalm 19:7-9 and pray that God would:

  1. Bring to mind where we need the light of his word in our lives.

  2. Give us desire to follow his word.

Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they proclaim the goodness of following in the way of Christ and remind us that we have been freed through Jesus’ blood.
