AUGUST 3, 2017
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we are completing our series through the Psalms “Ascribe.”
This week we are looking at Psalm 51 and seeing how God bring us to repentance and creates in us clean hearts.
Our Call to Worship is Psalm 51:10-12.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.
We can often think about our gathered worship as what we do to honor and glorify God. But that's not the only thing happening in our times of worship together. In worship God is shaping and aiming our hearts to love what he loves, to desire that it be on earth as it is in heaven. Psalm 51 calls us to worship God by reminding us that God desires to give us new hearts, led by the Holy Spirit that lives in the freedom, obedience, and joy of the gospel. As we worship God, he does what he promises to do, creating in us new hearts and restoring us to the joy of his salvation.
Read Psalm 51 and pray that God would:
1. Shape and aim our hearts to love what he loves.
2. Restore those who are tired, worn down, and exhausted.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they call us to desire what God desires and celebrate the goodness of God’s salvation. We’re singing a new original song this week. Check it out here:
