MARCH 1, 2017
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we continue our sermon series “Multiply: a Journey Through the Book of Acts.” We’ll be looking at Acts 14:8-22 and seeing how Jesus confronts and frees us from the idols of our hearts.
Our Call to Worship is Colossians 1:15-17.
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Colossians 1:15-17 calls us to worship God by detailing the awesome nature and power of Christ. While God often uses our needs, desires, and experiences to draw us to him in worship, the most foundational reason we worship Christ is because he is worthy of it. What we need most in life is to be ruled by the knowledge and experience of who Christ is and what he has done. When we are mastered by the wonder and awe of Christ, our hearts are drawn up and out of sin and suffering towards worship of our King.
Read Colossians 1:15-17 and:
Pray that Christ would be exalted in our worship gathering.
Pray that we would be given awe at who Christ is.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We are singing them because they draw us to praise Christ for who he is and what he has done.
