MAY 10, 2017
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we are continuing our series “Multiply: A Journey through Acts.” We’ll be looking at Acts 17:19-34 and seeing how Paul faithfully and contextually preached the gospel to the Athenians.
Our Call to Worship is Psalm 33: 4-5.
For the word of the Lord is upright,
and all his work is done in faithfulness.
He loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.
If you are honest with yourself what do you think the world is full of? Is it full of busyness? Tragedy? Sin? Comfort? Is your world full of the next challenge, transition, or break? When you look at your world are you aware that it is full of the steadfast love of the Lord? Are we deeply aware that underneath every struggle and success is God’s steadfast love guiding and working all things together for his glory and our good? Knowing this lets us embrace our struggles and success with clear minds and hearts buoyed by the very character of God. He is upright, always faithful, and he loves righteousness and justice! Who else is deserving of our trust and obedience? Only a God like ours! As we gather this Sunday let’s come ready to have God remind and reorient our hearts around the truth of his steadfast love.
Pray that we see God’s steadfast love as the foundation of our world.
Pray that we look more and more like Jesus, loving justice and righteousness.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We are singing these songs because they speak of the many facets of God’s character calling us to worship him for all that he is.
