JULY 5, 2017
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we are looking at Acts 20:13-38 and seeing how elder's play an important role in the life of healthy churches and how those under their care should mimic their behavior.
Our Call to Worship is Psalm 123:1:
To you I lift up my eyes,
O you who are enthroned in the heavens!
God wants our attention. Not because he is egotistical or needy. Not because he is indifferent to our joys and difficulties. God wants our eyes to be drawn to him because when we look to him it changes our whole worldview. We can only be free of idols of control when we see that God is the only one with real control. When we struggle with fear and uncertainty, we can only find lasting hope when we see that God sits unchallenged on his throne. When we are living out of pride and selfish-ambition, the only antidote is seeing that there is only one king on the throne. It is not a selfish thing for God to want us to lift our eyes to him. It is the best thing he can do for us, to get our eyes off ourselves, off our to-do lists, off our temporary situation and onto the eternal truth of who he is. Let’s gather together this Sunday ready to give God our full attention and to be changed by what we see!
Pray that God would draw our eyes away from ourselves and to him.
Pray that we would be changed by the king who sits on the throne.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they call us to faithful obedience through the power of Christ.
