AUGUST 23, 2017
"Getting Ready for Sunday" is a resource we provide to help the church look ahead to the upcoming Sunday. We want to prepare well for gathering together by reading God’s word, praying, and singing.
This week we are looking at Romans 12:4-8, Matthew 19:13-14 and seeing how God calls the church to be invested in a web of relationships.
Our Call to Worship is Matthew 11:28-30.
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
What’s the cure for our heavy burdens? How can we find rest? Is it by focusing on our struggles and becoming preoccupied with our worn down thoughts and feelings? Matthew 11:28-30 tells us the answer is to run to Jesus and listen and learn from him. Too often we let our burdens be what preoccupies and rules our minds. But God wants to give us rest from our burdens by getting our attention on his grace and his strength. As we gather this Sunday, let’s gather ready to look to and learn from the one who is stronger and better than any circumstance we might find ourselves in.
Thank God that he is gracious and kind.
Pray that we would give him all our attention and submission as we gather this week.
Here are the songs we are singing this week. We chose these songs because they point us to the freedom that comes when we trust and follow Jesus.
